Marina Alicante renews its Blue Flag award for 2026-2027

For more than twentieth consecutive year, the Alicante Port Marina has received the most prestigious award in environmental management and nautical quality in Europe, consolidating its position as a benchmark on the Mediterranean coast.

"Obtaining the Blue Flag year after year is not just recognition: it is a reflection of a daily commitment to the sea, to our users and to future generations."

The Port of Marina Deportiva has once again been awarded the Blue Flag for the 2026–2027 season, thereby reaffirming a track record of more than twenty years of uninterrupted commitment to sustainability, environmental quality and excellence in nautical services. The award was officially presented at an event held in Xilxes, as part of the Valencian Community’s Blue Flag ceremony, which brought together the region’s most prominent marinas and beaches.

This distinction, awarded annually by the European Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE), assesses rigorous criteria covering the sustainable management of the marine environment, the safety of facilities, water quality, environmental education and the provision of high-quality services. Passing this assessment process for more than two consecutive decades is no coincidence: it is the result of a consistent strategy, investment in infrastructure and, above all, the daily work of a team committed to the sea and to those who enjoy it.

What is the Blue Flag and why is it important for a marina?

The Blue Flag is the world’s most prestigious environmental certification scheme for beaches and marinas. Established in Europe in 1987 and managed by the FEE, it assesses more than 5,000 locations in over 50 countries every year. To be awarded the Blue Flag, a marina must meet over 30 criteria grouped into four categories: water quality, environmental management, safety and services, and environmental education and information.

In the context of recreational boating, the Blue Flag acts as a seal of trust for boat owners, sailors and tourists seeking a marina where every detail is taken care of. Choosing a marina with this award guarantees clean water at the jetties, responsible waste management, up-to-date safety protocols and a philosophy of respect for the marine environment that goes far beyond mere regulatory compliance.

Alicante, Spain’s Blue Flag capital in 2026

The recognition awarded to Marina Alicante forms part of an exceptional provincial context: the province of Alicante tops the national rankings for 2026 with a total of 95 awards for its beaches and marinas, a figure that reflects the entire region’s firm commitment to coastal quality and the preservation of the Mediterranean coastline.

In the municipality of Alicante itself, the beaches of San Juan, El Postiguet, Saladares-Urbanova and the iconic Isla de Tabarca have also been recognised in this year’s awards, confirming that the city not only offers kilometres of coastline, but also manages them responsibly and with a long-term vision. At provincial level, new additions such as Cala Lanuza in El Campello and the sites of Racó and Puerto Blanco in Calpe stand out.

What the Blue Flag guarantees to visitors to Marina Alicante

For sailors, shipowners and visitors who choose our facilities, this award is much more than just a symbol. It is a promise verified year on year by an independent organisation. These are the pillars that make it possible:

  • Certified water quality: regular checks to ensure a clean and healthy marine environment across all port facilities.
  • Responsible environmental management: separate waste collection points, facilities for discharging grey water and zero-discharge protocols within the port area.
  • Comprehensive safety: approved signage, emergency equipment on hand, incident response plans and staff trained to respond swiftly.
  • Excellent nautical services: modern infrastructure, personalised service and a range of services designed to meet the needs of vessels of all sizes.
  • Environmental education and information: awareness-raising initiatives aimed at users, visitors and the local community to promote a sustainable nautical culture.

A marina looking to the future from the Mediterranean

Maintaining Blue Flag status at the Alicante Marina for more than twenty consecutive years is not achieved by looking to the past. It requires foresight, constant adaptation to new standards and an organisational culture in which sustainability is not a one-off action, but part of the project’s identity. Every improvement to the facilities, every updated protocol and every environmental initiative launched forms part of this commitment, which is today recognised by the FEE.

The Mediterranean is a unique, fragile sea that is of immense value to biodiversity and to the quality of life of millions of people. Managing it responsibly from a marina involves making decisions that go beyond day-to-day operations: it means understanding that every boat that moors, every visitor who comes to us and every drop of water surrounding our jetties forms part of an ecosystem that deserves to be protected.

Thank you to everyone who has made this recognition possible

This achievement is, above all, a collective one. It would not be possible without the day-to-day work of the Marina Alicante team, without the trust of the users who choose our facilities year after year, or without the collaboration of partners and suppliers who share our vision of a more sustainable boating industry. The Blue Flag 2026–2027 is an accolade that belongs to this entire community and spurs us on to continue working with the same high standards that have brought us this far.

If you’re looking for a marina in Alicante where quality, sustainability and service come together perfectly, we invite you to come and meet us. Because at Marina Alicante, the Blue Flag isn’t a destination: it’s the starting point for every new season.
